When Marsha and I were in college, we struggled a lot financially. Marsha worked 3 jobs while taking classes and raising a newborn child. I lost my scholarships and was placed on academic probation by the end of my freshmen year. Knowing that I did not have the money to pay for my tuition, I still attended classes. I applied to become an independent student, and applied to become a resident of Pennsylvania but was denied for several years. It took me 11 years to graduate from a 4 year college.
From the fall of 2002 through to spring of 2007, I was still attending classes. I would pay $20 to the bursars office, just to have to ability to create a schedule. I would attend classes knowing that at the end of the semester, and possibly the end of the year, the money would not be there to pay my student bill.
For these reasons, we created The BodySmith Scholarship. We know what it feels like to feel alone, helpless, unsupported, and afraid when in college. We do not want college students to continue to feel this way. So, we created this scholarship to reduce the stress students experience when their student aid is not enough, when funds are needed when meal plan funds are running low, and to allow them to focus completely on their studies and building their career.
We want to help as many students as we can. We will provide 3 scholarships to The Pennsylvania State University where we attended. We are looking to select up to 20 students to provide a scholarship to the school of their choice. Applications will be online in December. Fundraising will begin in October 2019. Scholarships will be given out in April of 2020 after students have been accepted.
For new students and continuing student; In order to be eligible for this scholarship, we are asking students to provide us with an up-to-date transcript or letter of acceptance for the University or College they attend, an essay explaining the need for the scholarship and how they plan to use their scholarship if selected, and 2 letters of support from a teacher or advisor.
We plan on making these funds available at the beginning of the fall 2020 semester and we need your help to make this happen. Funds will be distributed to The BodySmith Foundation.
You can help us achieve this goal buy purchasing any BodySmith Apparel. 10% of all apparel sold will be donated to The BodySmith Inc. Scholarship.
